Durward is a chamber ensemble that promotes the diversity of contemporary music to a broad audience through performances of rarely performed works and commissioning new works by living composers. Committed to formal concert presentations and educational outreach programs, Durward engages audiences of all ages and artistic interests in experiences that celebrate creativity and develop a community-based commitment to new music.
Education: Part of Durward’s mission is to educate young musicians and potential composers about composition so there is not a disconnect between the composers of today and the listening audience.

THE MUSICIANS
I proudly named this ensemble after my late grandfather, Durward Belmont Howell (1922-1999), because of his love for the arts and my fondness for his name (which came out "DURWOULD" when his friends called his name in excitement with a thick Nashville accent). I remember going to see musicals and listening to old-school country music with him and grandma. He always supported my music career, and I know he'd be proud of the work and legacy of Durward today.
